|a Shirley Phillips is part of the Oglala Sioux and related to Crazy Horse. She was born on the Indian reservation in Kadoka, South Dakota. She met her husband, a war veteran, while attending college in Chadron, Nebraska. Phillips moved with her large and growing family in 1955 to Henderson, where her husband was placed as a teacher.
