Summary:
Dr. Herman van Betten survived the Nazi occupation as a child living in The Hague. He emigrated from the Netherlands to the United States and served in the U.S. Army for two years in Germany. van Betten earned a Ph. D. in Comparative Literature from University of Southern California. He became Dean of Communication and Art. Later appointed as Dean of the Campus, Dean of Business and Industry, and Dean of Extension at Clark County Community College, van Betten influenced the growth of what would become College of Southern Nevada. In Part 1, van Betten describes his childhood during Nazi occupation, his early work and education, and his political activism, culminating in his contributions to College of Southern Nevada.
