Bailey helped construct BMI as a labor dispatcher for McNeil Construction and then worked in sheet metal for BMI, where he was surprised to reunite with Kansas. Twenty-five years before, Bailey had served as timekeeper when Kansas became lightweight champion of the A. E. F. in a match with Kid Joplin at the Circle de Paris attended by General John J. Pershing, Prince of Wales Albert Edward, and Prince Leopold of Belgium. The article featuring the chance meeting was titled, “A Champ, a General, Pair of Kings & BMI.”
