Notes
- Summary:
- This scrapbook includes articles from 1942 about some of the investigations carried out by the Truman Committee. In particular, articles focus on the Committee's investigation of the contract between the Defense Plant Corporation (DPC) and Basic Magnesium, Inc. (BMI), a government-owned defense plant located in Henderson, Nevada that produced magnesium for World War II. Other articles focus on BMI's role in ending the Aluminum Company of America (ALCOA) and Dow Chemical Company's monopoly on magnesium production in the United States. Finally, a handful of articles discuss the delays in aircraft production and shipbuilding, which were blamed on "poor planning" by the armed services and Office of Production Management. Source and date information accompany each article clipping. The creator(s) and assembly date of this scrapbook remain unknown.
