520 3    |a This scrapbook includes articles published between 1942 and 1944 about the Nevada Democratic Senator, Berkeley L. Bunker, and his senatorial activities. Many of the articles focus on his charges that the Defense Plant Corporation (DPC) entered into a "sinister" contract with Basic Magnesium, Inc. (BMI), a government-owned defense plant located in Henderson, Nevada that produced magnesium for World War II. Berkeley claimed that the contract resulted in "unconscionable profits" for BMI. He personally attacked Commerce Secretary, Jesse H. Jones, as DPC fell under his jurisdiction. Other articles detail Bunker's other senatorial activities, his bid for re-election in 1942 (which he lost), and his subsequent run for Congress in 1944. Source and date information accompany each article clipping. The creator(s) and assembly date of this scrapbook remain unknown.
