- Summary:
- Ray Mertz worked as a welder on B-26s and had a deferment from the war. When it expired he joined the Navy because he wanted to get into a submarine. He trained as a torpedo man but also became skilled as a boxer and learned some German. He describes his time in the Navy as being filled with adventure, suspense, and notoriety.
