Abstract:
Bette Jo Peisker was born in Lumberton, New Mexico. Her family moved to Henderson n 1943. Her father co-owned and managed the Henderson pool hall and bowling alley, where Peisker sold concessions. Peisker shares memories of early Henderson, including St. Peter’s Church, local businesses, and the beginnings of telephone service. In her senior year at Basic High School, Peisker served as the Girls Athletic Association president, organizing regional sporting events and competing in basketball and softball. After graduating, Peisker worked as one of Henderson’s first policewomen and later in Nevada Hardware Store selling paint, ultimately retiring as the Regional Supervisor of Nevada for Sinclair Paints.
